Want to buy a stolen watch?

I'm guessing that most people are going to say no! Which is exactly why we run a Watch Register check on every watch we buy. We've run hundreds of checks on watches and have come up clean, until today....

I ran the usual precautionary check before making payment and received a call from Watch Register, saying the watch had been reported lost or stolen. I then received a phone call from the insurance company saying the watch was stolen in a burglary in 2021 and as they've paid out, they will be taking title of the watch. Fortunately my own robust procedures mean I'm not out of pocket for just under £2,000. The seller of the watch obviously won't receive payment for the watch, or get the watch back, and will therefore be out of pocket for the purchase price.

Buying cheaper doesn't always mean a better deal. If that 'bargain' watch you bought gets confiscated a few years down the line when you come to sell or part exchange, it can be a very expensive mistake. Only buy watches from a reputable seller that can provide you with a recent Watch Register certificate, the few hundred quid you can save buying privately just isn't worth the risk.
